Constituency Diary For James Paice MP

10am –12 Jim and Andrew Lansley MP will be meeting with South Cambridgeshire District councillors to discuss a range of issues including travellers, affordable housing and the Licensing Act. Closed meeting.

1-2pm Jim will be visiting the City of Ely College where he will meet with the principal, Ian Gartshore, and sample a meal.

• Jim said: "I continue to be concerned about the whereabouts of the funds promised by the Government to improve the quality of school dinners. Not one secondary school that responded to my recent survey believes that the Government is doing enough to improve the quality of school dinners, which is disappointing considering the promises made by the Education Secretary before the last election."

• Jim will also be personally congratulating staff on the recent OFSTED report which recognises the progress made by the College. Photographers welcome – please contact the College on 01353 667763.

2.30-3.30pm Jim will be visiting the Sue Ryder Care Centre, The Old Palace, Palace Green, Ely, CB7 4EW. The Centre’s manager, Mavis Garner, will soon be retiring after 20 years of service.

• Jim said: "Mavis has worked at the Sue Ryder Care Centre in Ely for 20 years and will be sorely missed by staff and residents when she retires. The quality of care provided by the Centre is a tribute to Mavis's long service and the commitment of her colleagues, which I am sure will be continued in the years to come." Photographers welcome – please contact the Centre on 01353 667686

4.30pm Jim will be meeting Art Kelleway, Chairman of the proposed Friends of St John’s Road Playing Field Association, and other residents, to discuss concerns about the skate park to be built on the nearby playing field. He will meet the residents at 9 Landsdowne Close, Ely CB6 3BL before being shown the proposed skate park site.

• Jim said: "While it is right that young people are given things to do the council must address the concerns of local residents who fear that the new skate park will act as a magnet to anti-social behaviour." Photographers welcome – please contact Mr Kelleway on 01353 664648.
