Paice To Visit Ely Museum For Anglo Saxon Day

South East Cambridgeshire MP Jim Paice will be joining 90 pupils from Ely St Mary’s School at the Ely Museum on Friday 23rd February at 11am to learn about Anglo-Saxon Ely.

The ‘Anglo-Saxon Day’ is being held in conjunction with Ely Cathedral and will involve drama, role-play and a hands-on workshop about Saxon life. Children will be able to dress up in Anglo-Saxon clothes and armour, handle replica objects and learn about the early history of Ely by meeting re-enactors in costume.

Mr Paice said: “An Anglo-Saxon village near Ely was known to have existed in the 11th Century and I am delighted that the Ely Museum is bringing it to life for local school children.

“School visits like this are a great way of inspiring children to learn about our rich history and cultural heritage.”

Robert Clasby, Ely Museum Chairman of Trustees, said: “The day was made possible by support from MLA East of England, who provide funding to help museums and schools work together, and would not have been possible without the wonderful support of local members of Regia Anglorum Re-enactment Society.”
