Today Jim visited Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust’s children’s speech and language therapy service in Princess of Wales Hospital, Ely.
Jim met staff and a patient, and found out about the Trust’s aspiration to become a community NHS Foundation Trust.
Lizzie Hunt, team leader for children’s speech and language therapy service in East Cambs, said: “We are delighted Mr Paice visited our service. We were able to show him a therapy session in progress and talk about the work we are doing to assess, diagnose and treat children and young people who experience speech, language, communication and feeding difficulties.
“It was a great opportunity for staff to meet their local MP and talk about the innovative ways we support families and ensure that every child gets the help they need quickly.”
Matthew Winn, chief executive, Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust who accompanied Jim said: “We welcome Mr Paice’s visit and his support for our ambitious plans for the future. “We recently held a public consultation to become one of the country’s first community NHS Foundation Trusts and I was delighted to discuss our ambitious plans for the community health services with Mr Paice.
“Central to our Foundation Trust bid is a membership predominantly made up of local people and staff who would have a major influence on how we provide community health and social care to children and adults in the future.”
Jim said: “I was delighted to meet the children’s speech and language therapy team to see and hear about how they are developing our community services. I also thoroughly enjoyed meeting with Charlie and his mother, Donna.
“I would encourage South East Cambridgeshire residents to take up the opportunity to become a member of the Trust and get involved in their local community health and social care services.”
