Jim is given a tour of the new facility

Today Jim officially opened GW Pharmaceuticals’ new 12,000 sq. ft. facility in Histon and met the staff working there.

GW is a UK pharmaceutical company developing a portfolio of prescription medicines derived from cannabis to meet patient needs in a wide range of therapeutic conditions. It is one of very few UK biopharmaceutical companies to have conceived and developed through to approval a novel prescription medicine, and is highly respected within the industry.

Sativex is the world’s first prescription cannabis-based medicine. It is approved in the UK for the treatment of the spasticity in patients with Multiple Sclerosis and approved/recommended for approval in a further nine countries. Applications for approval are underway in a further 14 countries at the present time.

The premises in Histon will initially house a team of 45 clinical research professionals who will coordinate the company’s trials with cannabis-based medicines at locations around the world and work on regulatory submissions for new medicines.  GW is an expanding company and the additional space means that the company can continue to take on additional staff.

Jim said, ‘In these difficult times new and expanding businesses are vital for Cambridgeshire and so I am delighted to be opening this new facility here in Histon. I hope GW’s will soon be able to provide even more jobs to support our local economy.’
