Cambridgeshire broadband campaign reaches major milestone

Jim has been campaigning for the improvement of broadband services in Cambridgeshire for many years. Private companies have not recognised the demand for fast, reliable broadband in South East Cambridgeshire and this has meant that much needed investment in infrastructure has not been provided.
Ten weeks ago Connecting Cambridgeshire was launched so that the residents of Cambridgeshire could register their demand for better broadband and with the aim of providing superfast broadband of 30Mphs to 90% of all Cambridgeshire premises whilst improving connectivity to all others, ensuring a standard broadband service of at least 2Mphs.
The latest figures show that 10,000 people have registered their demand in the first ten weeks of the Connecting Cambridgeshire campaign. This puts Cambridgeshire at the top of the table for percentage of registrations in areas of poor broadband coverage.
Jim says, ‘I am delighted to see that Cambridgeshire is leading the way in demonstrating its demand for broadband improvements. Cambridgeshire has seized the opportunity to encourage private companies to invest in our broadband infrastructure. However, many more people are needed to help continue this campaign’s excellent work. I hope that all members of the community, families, students and businesses alike, will take the time to register their demand for broadband and secure much-needed infrastructure improvement in Cambridgeshire’.
Not only does registration demonstrate local demand for superfast broadband, it also allows the Cambridgeshire Broadband together Partnership to gather important information about broadband coverage in the County, showing where significant improvements are needed.
If you have not yet taken a few minutes to register, please visit the Connecting Cambridgeshire website at www.connectingcambridgeshire.co.uk to help bring better broadband to Cambridgeshire.
